Andy Warhol said that everyone gets 15 minutes of fame - and
Josh Schwartz, creator of
The O.C. and
Gossip Girl, is giving indie rock bands at least 15
seconds, plus a little bit more, through a new online show.
Episodes are just four minutes long for his new internet series,
Rockville, CA, which centres around a music club where real bands will perform - although they'll only be highlighted for about 15 seconds an episode.
So what does the smart guy who created
The O.C. and
Gossip Girl do when he's hauling bands such as
White Lies and
Phantom Planet in to perform for the show anyhow? According to
Reuters, he's going to record their entire exclusive - and much longer than 15-second - performances that are happening during the tapings, and post them online. The production company is also reportedly considering a DVD version of the series.
Rockville, CA, which
the WB blog says will be
"THE BEST THING EVER," debuts on
March 17 with four episodes, and then two or three new episodes will be posted every week.
Schwartz says he's not sure whether or not Rockville will eventually get picked up for full-length network TV - but for now, that's just fine with him.
"I don't know this is the final result, that we're going to make
five-minute episodes of things," Schwartz said of the series'
next-generation format. "But that's what makes this exciting."
