Friends, it’s that time again… time to listen to all of the bands that were too strange, broke, or late to get into New Music West!
If you are one of the many Vancouverites who appreciate cheap beer, adventurous bands, five-dollar cover, and the swath of new music venues in the Downtown Eastside, I recommend checking out Music Waste this weekend.
The festival was started by Vancouver’s Only Magazine 14 years ago as a way to offer underground musicians a way to showcase their talents, and it has grown into one of the best and weirdest festivals of the summer. It is, as the festival’s organizers describe it, “an epic chorus of Vancouver’s independent and DIY music culture.” And if I know anything about the phrase “epic chorus,” I know that it either means the most amazing thing you’ve ever heard, or terrible. Regardless, the beer will be bad. The music might be too!? But there is solace in knowing that it will be cheap...and bad. So that makes it good. I think.
Here are some shows that might not be bad at all, but actually quite good:
June 4th @ The Cobalt
Fake Jazz w/ Japanese Graffiti, Ejaculation Death Rattle, etc.
A weekly night of experimental noise punk stuff at the Cobalt, except this time it will be taken over by Music Waste people. Also, the last time I saw Ejaculation Death Rattle someone was dressed entirely in toilet paper
June 5th @ Radha Eatery
Hank and Lily, Ora Cogan, Dyad, Creaking Planks
Creepy chorus rock, accordians, and bluegrass in a small space. Yes!
June 5th @ Pub340
The B-Lines, Dead Ghosts, Get Well Bomb, The TVees
I don’t know about these other guys, but the B-Lines have some pretty amazing 30-second punk songs, the way punk should be, all short and panicky and loud.
Well it’s becoming obvious that I am just copying out their schedule, because I kind of want to see all of it. So I will let you check out their website to craft your own schedule:

p.s. White Lung is also awesome. June 7th at Pub340.
