Let us know what you think by posting on our blog or sending us an email to feedback@cbcradio3.com and we'll discuss your comments throughout the show!

Also on the show, plenty of music from last year's winners, and Craig Norris of the R3-30 once again brings us his Alternate Bucky Awards at the Golden Dragon Chinese and Canadian Food Restaurant in Rosenort, Ontario, where Craig was forced to partner our awards with the Rosenort Native Plant Gardening Awards...

Holy F*ck played in Auckland on Sunday, I'm still reeling. There was a fifty+ year old woman at the very front dancing and chanting "Go Leafs". I even got to talk to the band afterwards. They definitely deserve the award, they had the whole place jumping.

Yeah they were killer. We were gonna invite them out to Mount Eden with us after the show to get drunk on a volcano, but they were heading straight to Wellington for Monday night's show. Too bad.

A-Trak is playing the Rhythm and Vines festival in Gisborne over New Years Eve. If you decide to hop the Tasman when you're in Aus, it should be worth checking out.

Kensington vs Hockey Night in Canada

I LOVE Jason Collett, don't get me wrong. But how is Kensington Market more Canadian than the Hockey Night in Canada theme that Veda Hille used???
    Listeners what are you thinking?

Wrong choice in my opinion and I love all of Jason's stuff. Sorry Veda.
  32. Justin Beach

Okay, I am failing at this whole Bucky thing.

So far I've only got one (Push Pins), and I agree with you about Luke Doucet, that is a beautiful lyric.

Also I'm sad NQ Arbuckle didn't win. I love that song. *tear*
  35. Grant Lawrence
    35

    @boyforpele

there are myriad reasons why Kensington Market is more Canadian that Hockey Night In Canada, and I am a massive hockey fan... that neighbourhood is THEE multicultural microcosm of what makes Canada great, in my opinion only...

I forget who I voted for, and I know after I voted I was really unsure of some of my choices. I think I got the Holy F right. But I think I voted for Library Voices. And NQ Arbuckle. The one that's given me the most inner turmoil is Sexiest Musician. I voted Alice Glass but over the last few weeks I've fallen in love with Laura Barrett.

    Rookie of the Year

  61. Justin Beach

    3/10

Rookie of the Year was Woodhands - no doubt
  62. TheRadioHead

    Woodhands vs P & A

I voted for both these bands.

I struggled with P & A as it was hard to view them as a new band when I had seen them in 2007 with Patrick Watson after he won the Polaris.

    Not exactly new.

best road trip: tall trees. i listened to this song on roadtrips of all varieties - by car, by foot, by bike, by canoe. who doesn't imagine traveling down a deserted path with green branches hanging down, the sunlight streaming through?

band name: library voices. fabulous sound out of a band whose name suggests hushed tones and whispers - awesome

i voted a few weeks ago, and upon rereading the nominees, i'm happy that i was wrong on a few...
  65. Justin Beach
    65

    Next

One of the many reasons I voted Woodhands for Rookie of the Year is Maylee Todd's vocals on that song. Once her solo stuff is ready she'll be another Rookie of the Year.

Best Live: Holy Fuck and Elliott Brood were both good but if it were up to me it would have gone to Sunparlour Players or Pack AD

    Bucky Scandal Averted!

I was thinking that it's sort of funny that there is no second place for the Bucky's... I suppose unlike the Olympics you don't have to worry about Canadian musicians cheating and having to relinquish their awards so there's no reason to have a runner-up.

"Fred Eaglesmith! That was not a lawnmower pull starter - it was the entire lawnmower!! We're confiscating your award!!" I don't think so... hahaha

Re: Live on CBC Radio 3: The 2008 Bucky Awards

With exams I have been out of the R3 loop lately, but today at work I was listening to last week's podcast and flipped when I heard the Bucky's were being announced today. I called my friend right away to tell her to listen but unfortunately my work is pretty anal about not using streaming radio. ERG! But I'm home now so it's all good!!

As for being right... the ones I've got wrong so far are: Catchiest Hook, Best Lyric (should've been Luke Doucet -- that is my favourite lyric of all time), most unconventional instrument (should've been The Real McKenzies - bagpipes are the best), Best Band Name (should've been Blind Tiger Tiger), Rookie of the Year (Human Highway) SO overall I did pretty good!
  70. danlee
    70

    An American picking Canadian

I'm not Canadian, but I picked CGY for best Canadian song because it's cool. But I love Jason Collett so I'm happy for him.

I'm not doing so hot. I only have three winners so far. Rookie-plants & animals
    Vocals-Mother Mother
Hook-BLACK MOUNTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! (I was a lot more exited than Steven McBean was!)

I picked Luke Doucet for Lyics,Dragon Fli/Cadence Weapon for collaberation,Fake Shark/Real Zombie for band name,Laura Barret for unconventional instrument, Les Dales Hawerchuck for best reason to learn French, but Like the Karkwa song!

Let's see for beat, I picked.....Hexes and Ohs
Did they win? I'm waiting Grant!
    Nope.
  71. Justin Beach
    71

    4/13

Go Dan! At least Woodhands gets this one.

I'm automatically counting the last category because I don't have a horse in the Future Classic race either - some good songs but none of them are going to forever remind me of 2008
  72. danlee
    72

    Memory gone, daddy, gone.

I can't remember who I voted for on best road trip....
I think it was Danny Michel
But I like the Modern Boys Mondern Girls,My baby says Boy Don't You Ever Go and the I Spies song To The City.
I know that I didn't vote for the winner!
  73. BigRockFan
    73

    Future Classic

Chad VanGaalen "Willow Tree". This album has been on the university charts for something like 4 months, including being at #1 for 2 months. I think it's a good bet that the album and song will be future classics for a lot of people.

You can't return them - they are made in an old Chinese lead factory and it's actually a violation of workplace safety regulations to keep them in the R3 studios.

They are just shipped directly from China to you.
  82. danlee

    I knew Chad would win........

    He's got lots of talent.
I just hope that he wins the video award. He did the animation for it.
But he's got some tough contenders like Shad and Haden.

Oh, I didn't pick him to win though, I picked Tokyo Police Club, but I like Willow tree, GREAT LYRICS!
