    Question for Tokyo Police Club

After a long tour with such a big name as an opener and playing such huge venues are you guys looking forward to getting back to playing a more intimate venue as the headliner? How do the two compare?

And Grant, I wouldn't mind hearing a little Time Breaks Down by Bend Sinister. Feels like I haven't listened to it for a while now.

    Question for both

What's the best season to do touring in? I suppose it would be nice to hit some warmer destinations during the winter but i don't think anything could beat the canadian country in the summer.

Re: Live on CBC Radio 3: All Request with Luke Doucet, Tokyo Police Club

I think I'd really like to hear The Midway State song, "Change for you".

To the best of my knowledge he didn't go solo, but the boy behind that band is pretty much it's genius I read.

Re: Live on CBC Radio 3: All Request with Luke Doucet, Tokyo Police Club

Are you playing just the solo material or are you also taking requests for the artist's former band. If you're entertaining the idea of playing their older band then I'd like to hear some classic Thrush Hermit ...or some Blurtonia (Ian Blurton's post-Change of Heart solo project).

    thanks

I suppose i could through a whole more suggestions up, Corb Lund, Sarah Harmer, Joel Plasket, all formally of great bands, that have great solo projects.

oh. and there's a talented singer/songwriter from Ottawa named Gianna Lauren. Haven't heard her on CBC R 3 yet...but maybe that's because you guys don't have her album yet. Check her out.

    Solo?

Can you define solo for the purposes of this blog? I mean solo as in Hayden, Kate Maki and Dan Mangan or solo as in the Hidden Cameras, Awkward Stage and Caribou (all of which are really one person and whoever they can round up for live shows)?
  14. marcellehasgout
    14

    question!

for both Graham Wright and Luke Doucet:

What/who is your favourite band/artist to play with other than your usual bandmates?
and who is your favourite CBCr3 personality?

    solo definition...

Justin, you don't really think Hidden Cameras are a solo project do you? or the Awkward Stage? I think those BANDS would beg to differ!

    Ouch Grant

Reveling in it a little much eh Grant? Haha, I guess it's karma. At least there was still the two hours traffic show on Friday for you though.

Maybe we should both work to help each other out. I'll start as a show of good faith. Apparently Woodhands is playing the Gallery on Dec 3rd (tickets should be at Zulu or the Outpost in the SUB at UBC)

Re: Live on CBC Radio 3: All Request with Luke Doucet, Tokyo Police Club

I'd love to hear some Matthew Barber, a super enjoyable solo act!

    Let's see, questions.

Graham, now that you're super famous, when can we expect the reality tv show? ;)

Luke, I can't think of a question, congrats on the besy lyric Bucky Nomination, I've always loved that line!

    24

    Beg to Differ?

They might, or they might not. What would those bands say if you asked "What would happen to the Hidden Cameras if Joel Gibb left?" or "...the Awkward stage if Shane Nelken decided to go?" I don't know what the Awkward Stage would say, but I don't think anyone in the Hidden Cameras would even pretend that it wasn't Joel Gibb's thing - or that they could even play a single show as the Hidden Cameras without Gibb.

    @rdickie and Peanut Gallery?

Yeah, I did some poking around the internets and found this site http://amseventsubc.com/site/index.cfm?go=site.calendar on the ams website.

and where is the peanut gallery downtown? I don't remember ever being to it...

Re: Live on CBC Radio 3: All Request with Luke Doucet, Tokyo Police Club

would it be possible to hear some Craig Cardiff, and more specially the song Radio #9, or any other song by him in case you don't have that one.
If you don't have that available, than would it be cool to play some old matt barber like 'we're gonna play".

btw... i got my cool CBC scarf in the mail and all the kids at school are jealous... hehe thanks!
  27. Grant Lawrence
    27

    @Justin

... it might be Joel Gibb's "thing" but I still wouldn't call the Hidden Cameras a solo project... Holy Fuck wouldn't continue without Brian Borcherdt but I wouldn't call that a solo project either.

    Solo

Ok, just getting your definition: Personally I think that Hidden Cameras, Sunparlour Players etc., are kindof solo projects (as opposed to solo perfomers) - they don't play alone but there is one person who writes the music, decides how it should sound and be played.

But - if you're after solo perfomers, how about 'To Please' by Kate Maki - that's a fun song.

    2nd Best Bassist

Speaking of great Canadian musicians... how about play 'Ass Ravaged Beets' by Run Chico Run, featuring Matt Skillings (my vote for best drummer in Canada)!!

OK, Andrew Scott isn't too bad either.

REe:Live on CBC Radio 3: All Request with Luke Doucet, Tokyo Police Club

I saw Luke Doucet play here in Hollywood a few months ago and it was one of the best shows I've seen all year. I kind of got addicted to watching the video for "Broken One" after that show, and then I found a fantastic video on Youtube of Luke playing the song acoustic at Indie 103. So I have a guitar-nerd question which is what is the acoustic guitar in that video (Actually I think it's in both videos)? And how did he write a song as amazing as "Cleveland"? Oh and one more... when's he coming back to LA? I mean wait till the smoke from the fires dies down, but I hope it's not a year or something.
