Fishing for Promotion: Dreams do come true for Young Rival

Posted by Marie Bartlett on Oct 03, 2008
Coming up with new ways of promotion can be tiring, but for Young Rival (formerly The Ride Theory) it seems to be a mere game of fishing.

The Hamilton, Ontario band released their first EP this September entitled Young Rival. Headed out on a cross-country tour to promote their EP the band created a new way of making promotion fun by hosting a website where people can play a video-game called Guitar Fishing. Simple and fun, the idea is to shoot fish with walloping guitar zaps while avoiding dirty old boots.

And for inspiration look to the dreams of Drew, brother of bass player John Smith. One night Drew had a dream about "floating down a river on a lily pad while shredding on a guitar that doubles as a fishing rod".

So I guess, dreams do come true.

Check out their song "Poisonous Moves" and their tour dates after the jump.

    shameless plug

I've seen YR play three times in their native Hamilton. The first time was serendipity as they opened for the Sadies and the next two were blatant 'I want to see this band'isms. If you've forgotten about rock and roll, this tour will be a good time to refresh your memory.
