Neil Young Announces North American Tour; Death Cab And Wilco To Open

Posted by Jennifer Van Evra on Aug 19, 2008
Canadian rock 'n' roll icon Neil Young has just announced an expansive North American tour - and there are plenty of Canadian stops along the way.

The tour starts in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 14 and ends at Madison Square Garden in New York on December 15.

Canadian dates include Winnipeg (Oct. 16), Regina (Oct. 18), Calgary (Oct. 19), Vancouver (Oct. 22), Halifax (Nov. 29), Montreal (Dec. 1), Ottawa (Dec. 2) and Toronto (Dec. 4).

Death Cab For Cutie and Everest will open for the first half of the tour; then, starting in Halifax on November 29, Wilco and Everest will take over the opening duties. (Of the announcement, Everest said "It's a dream come true.")

According to Live Nation, fans of the veteran rocker can expect an eclectic mix of newer material, as well as classic hits.

This round of dates comes on the heels of Young's hugely successful 2008 European tour, which had the Canadian-born, California-based rocker appearing in 14 countries over three months.

But if you want to go, better get that speed dial finger ready: tickets for all of the Canadian shows go on sale Friday, August 22.

    yeah Saskatchewan!

Even though he's from Winnipeg, I almost can't believe I'll get to see him in Saskatchewan...the last time he was through I was 15 and living in Prince Albert and ended up being out of town, so I didn't even have the option to try to convince my parents to let me make the trip down to Regina, this is such good news!

Darn it, bummed that Wilco won't be at the Vancouver showing. But having Neil almost makes up for the lack of Leonard on the West Coast ... almost.

about freaking time he's playing in Winnipeg on his own! He better play a few songs from his 3 year old Prairie Wind album, the whole album takes place within Manitoba, mentioning the Red River, and the town of Cypress River
