Keeping the Home Fires Burning

Posted by Scott Wood on Jul 17, 2008
After three years of bliss, Georgie and Jenn are ready to call it quits.

Jenn's job as a helicopter pilot keeps her away from home for long periods of time. She is home for a couple of days, then away for a week, then back again for a few days, then gone again.

At first, Georgie liked the alone time, but reality quickly set in. First, Jenn missed Georgie's company summer BBQ softball tournament and then the X-mas party. Now most of her coworkers don't even believe that Jenn really exists! Then Jenn couldn't be there for Georgie's birthday or her nephew's bar mitzvah. And finally, Georgie had to move their stuff into their new apartment-all by herself!

It was the straw that broke the camel's back. Now, all that's keeping them together is two tickets to see Stink Mitt's next show.

CBC Radio 3 to the rescue!

Being in a relationship with someone who has to spend a lot of time away from home for work is tough. When you're making a living in a band, touring can keep you away from home-and that special someone-for weeks, even months at a time.

Most musicians have had to become experts at this long distance stuff. So I decided to talk with Maygen from The Blood Lines, Chris from Animal Names, Arif from Protest the Hero, Kevvy from Fake Shark - Real Zombie! and Edo from The Clips and Brasstronaut. Listen to their experiences and share your own below!

How do you keep your relationship exciting and fresh?
