Imagine yourself and four other guys in a beat up old van stuffed full of your gear driving 12 hours from Vancouver to Calgary. After the Calgary show, it's back in the van for many more hours until you hit Saskatoon or Winnipeg. After that, more driving to hit Ontario. The fuel bill alone can make any x-Canada tour a break-even business venture at best.
So not surprisingly, many Canadian bands seriously consider relocating.
I talk with three Canadian artists who have wrestled with the idea of leaving Canada.
Kevvy Mental and his band
Fake Shark - Real Zombie! have just gone through their baptism of fire-their first x-Canada tour.
Jeremy Shaw from
CircleSquare has recently decided to leave the sunny shores of Vancouver for Berlin, Germany. He is following the footsteps of other Canadian artists who have found a way to make a living at music abroad, like the legendary
Peaches.
Have a listen to what these guys have to say and let us know what you think!
