I had an opportunity to sit down with Holy F*ck band member Brian Borcherdt at one point during this Session as he demonstrated taking a sample from a keyboard, running it through some delay and looping it and in a matter of 2 minutes, he had created something really cool and musical right there on the spot!
In a way, that short moment really represented to me the spirit of this band and their penchant for improvisation. In that mini-demonstration, I also got introduced to the band's recent purchase of a toy piano that they found in a Value Village or something - that's right folks, when Holy F*ck comes to your town, they're likely planning to comb through the shelves of your local thrift stores in search of those unwanted toys and discarded instruments that were to you, junk, but are to them treasures and potential inspiration for a new song.
Of course, Holy F*ck don't rely exclusively on Casio tones to generate the pulsing rhythms - the band is rounded out with a drummer and a bass player and the whole crew showed up in Toronto to record this Session in October of 2007, toy pianos and all.
