For The Record: New Releases For The Week Of April 15, 2008

Posted by Jennifer Van Evra on Apr 18, 2008
The Constantines - Kensington Heights
Kicking off with the blistering single "Hard Feelings," Toronto's The Constantines continue to deliver on a sound that NME calls "air punchingly anthemic."

Duchess Says - Anthologie Des 3 Perchoirs
Fasten your seatbelts for this, the long-awaited debut full-length from Montreal punk favourites Duchess Says - who have performed alongside bands including Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. and Depeche Mode.

Justin Nozuka - Holly
He's just 19 years old, but this Toronto singer-songwriter sings soulful songs about relationships, fear, regret and more - and so far, this album, which contains touches of roots, blues, folk and pop, has won four-star reviews from the BBC and Q magazine.

Culture Reject - Culture Reject
Michael O'Connell's travels through African and rural Cuba influeced the sound of this album, which is inspired by "love and mourning, the trials of good people, feeling isolated and life in city chaos."

Ghost Bees - Tasseomancy
Halifax "twin telepaths" Romy and Sari Lightman sing dark, sweet, harmony-heavy songs about great ancestry and lost empires in a style that critics have dubbed "spooky folk."

Black Mountain - Bastards of Light EP
If you didn't manage to snag this tour-only 12" at a live show by these beloved Vancouver rockers, you can now pick it up on iTunes.

Also this week:

Joseph Arthur - Crazy Rain and Boredom

The Kooks - Konk

The Childballads
- Cheekbone Hollows

The Brian Jonestown Massacre - My Bloody Underground

Supergrass - Diamond Hoo Ha

The Clash - Revolution Rock (DVD Documentary)

Mariah Carey - E=MC2
