The R3-30: Week Ending February 21, 2008

Posted by Craig Norris on Feb 15, 2008
I admit that I'm not hip to what's "in" these days when it comes to airbrushing your van. But I do know that if I were going to do it, I'd have a muscled guy on a horse, some jaggedy mountains and a couple of Dobermans on the hood looking like they're talking. Suhweeeeet!

And I know that I would love that van. Yes, fundamentally love it. Oh, maybe not as much as our Long Range Request this week. Nigel sends a New Pornographers song to his van and his girlfriend, Nikki. They're galivanting all over New Zealand while Nigel's back in Vancouver. Our Wheel of Freedom pitch is from Sarah in Montreal who pitches a song that takes direct aim at Toronto's indie scene. There's a History of the Chart Question about the fastest rising song ever on The R3-30, and we announce the WINNER of our Name Them Handclaps Contest.

There are three CHARTBREAKERS and we'll hop into the time machine and travel back 9 years for a Thrush Hermit WayBackTrack! Maybe while I'm back there I can sell my Nortel stocks a little earlier than I did.

And *re-airbrush my van.

*not a euphemism

The chart, good people

    Dissapate the Gas

PLEASE, Please, please. Don't tell me that horribly annoying song is number one. You guys have just lost the great majority of whatever credibility you had with me.

Whose ass did Nardwar the human serviette wipe to even get his stupid song on the chart in the first place! (I switch to playlist mode whenever that song comes on!)

This has made me ask a very important question: Who decides this chart and on what basis???

    Gassy Jack

Yeah, Gassy Jack is kind of getting on my nerves too. *sigh*

Also, I'm patiently awaiting the day "Take You Home" by Luke Doucet and the White Falcon rings through my little computer speakers. Is anyone listening? Pleeeease play the song, I will sit at my desk and swoon with love for CBC Radio 3!

    Blue cheese!

Why the random hate for blue cheese! The dressing is alright on salad but I think it'd true purpose is to go with hot wings. Still, crumbled blue cheese on certain salads is awesome.
I will admit that blue cheese isn't so much on of those things people say "you develop a taste for" like wine, no, blue cheese is a thing you every like or you don't. Must be genetics?

AlexOfAnders, I think if you don't have a taste for it, as you get older your tastebuds die off and you can stand it... ;) I've never liked it, in any form, but I like really old cheddars.

Gooooo Sunparlour Players, you're almost there!

Also, I like the Evaporators song Gassy Jack. I've never really been a fan of them until this song. so yay. :)

    The old man of Anders

Haha, as I get older eh? I'm just curious of how old you think I am, cause this old man's been eating his cheese blue since he was 15

4 if you count Craig... but who does? ;)

AlexOfAnders, you must just have strange genetics. ;) Like you said though, you either like it or don't.

    Chartbreakers

Hey Craig. During the intro to Podcast #51, you mention Chartbreakers, and explain that "we've never played one of those on the podcast".

What are you talking about? If I'm not mistaken, you played The Two Koreas / "U-Boat Commander" as a Chartbreaker in the very first R3-30 podcast!

It IS true that you haven't played a Chartbreaker on the podcast in a long time.

Hey, this would make a good History of the Chart question. How many Chartbreakers have appeared on the podcast?
