I've probably said it before, but I'll say it again; I'm a fan of lyrics. And I'm sure I'm not alone on this. I know there are those of you who, like me, enjoy listening to a CD and following along with the enclosed lyric sheet - oh go on, admit it.
So what is it about Winnipeg that seems to inspire creative lyric writing in its bands like The Weakerthans or Christine Fellows? Can't say for sure but I can suggest that we add to this list The Paperbacks. In fact, The Weakerthans and The Paperbacks are the only two bands I know that have used the word "palindrome" in a song (I'm guessing there are others, but I can't think of any right now...).
Doug Mclean, Jaret McNabb, Louis Levesque-Cote, Ian LaRue and Corey Biluk are The Paperbacks and in September of 2007, they made a stop in at Studio 2 here in Vancouver to record these songs. They even laid down a track that they had only ever practiced 3 times before that day!
And you'll hear the song with the word "palindrome" in this session too if you listen for it...
