Web Radio: The Craig Norris Hour - 11/22/07

Posted by Craig Norris on Nov 22, 2007
Winter has arrived here in Southwestern Ontario.

Awakened by the sound of ice pellets hitting my window, I looked out and wondered if I'd ever go out again. I don't think I'm alone in mammalian hibernation desires, either. On a day like today, a lot of people will no doubt be staying home, and settling in with a nice mug of Ovaltine.

So, we're introducing a BRAND NEW SEGMENT on The Craig Norris Hour today! It's called "Why Should I Leave My House?" Each week, music types/bloggers, etc. from Canada (and around the world) will convince us that there's a show coming up that we absolutely cannot miss. This week, Frank from chromewaves.net pitches The Acorn this Saturday night at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto.

Which inevitably leads to my Thursday question:
What are YOU doing this weekend?

    A west coast weekend

Well Craig, I do sympathize with your desire for a little hibernation. Hopefully I'll manage to slip that in.

I do feel compelled to brag that while Ontarians and other easterners are being pummeled by winter weather, making you want nothing more than to huddle under the covers all weekend, I'll be doing my best to have a rip-roaring west coast weekend. I'll be running a muddy, wet, cold 10k race in Victoria called the Gunner Shaw Memorial Cross Country Classic on Saturday. Following that I'm jumping on a ferry to Vancouver, where I hope to see Jose Gonzalez. Following a vegeterian lunch at the Bo Kong restaurant in Vancouver, I'll be heading to a Canucks game on Sunday evening. Sounds pretty good, eh?

I feel someone should ask...what are YOU up to this weekend?

Here's what's going down in Waterloo!

Here at 130 King St N, we've a couple of killer shows lined up for the chilly weekend:

Friday night has us enjoying an amazingly beautiful night of Timber Timbre, Evening Hymns & Ghost Bees.

Saturday has the house rocking with the disparate sounds of Languid Lotus CD Release, featuring BA Johnston, My Dad vs. Yours & Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs.

House shows and alternative venue spaces are what Canadian music tradition is founded on.

Growing my beard, putting on my ironical tee, vintage parka and heading to city hall to march for [insert your social cause here] after warming up later at a Starbucks drinking unFairtrade coffee.

    or…

I am going to get really drunk and eat an assload of pizza and wings while ass-slapping my buddies and shouting random cool phrases that are two months past due (like "Don't Taser Me Bro") while watching the Grey Cup.

    They're doing what?!

Folks! What are they doing to my CBC today?! Change is scary! Is this good? Does it mean I will be able to watch the complete RMR online? Does this mean I'll be able to upload my amateur TV productions to CBC Television? What's going to happen to poor sweet defenseless Buck 65? Did the CBC bigwigs think about his feelings when they decided they were going to amalgamate? Why does Craig tell us he's not wacky and he doesn't give away prizes so many times a day, when he's clearly lying?
