This always happens to me, a band puts out some new music. I listen to it and then instantly go back to the songs of theirs that I first loved. So apologies to Ryder Havdale of Vancouver's Mohawk Lodge, your new CD Wildfires is really great and I love this blue collar indie soul thing you're working with. And I know you're - at least for now - over the dirty folk thing. But I'm just not.
This is why today I'm recommending something from the debut disc - Rare Birds. It's called "Making Music" and is just one of the pretty songs in a collection that does make one think of music that isn't quite folk but somehow feels folksy and sexy rock-y all at once - thus the dirty, I guess. Filled with acoustic guitars, toe-tapping rhythms and dreamy vocals. The deliciously lazy song actually invites you to "slow down and breathe."
Done and done.
