New Music Canada Track of the Day for Wednesday, July 25, 2007: Jesse Matheson "Son Of A Gun"

Jesse Matheson.

Someone I know little about, because his NMC page (as you will see if you hit the above link) has no website or email info. I know that he is unsigned, he is apparently from Saskatchewan - even though his city is listed as Vancouver.

"Son Of A Gun" is a great song, though. Simple, uneffected, and built really well. Being a sucker for dynamics in a song, I love the sparse first verse and how it builds and adds voices and instruments from there. Subtly, but wisely.

So, if you're Jesse Matheson and you're reading this, why don't you comment below and tell us what the what.

    He is me!

Hey it's me Jesse. Thank you so much Craig for your kind words and for playing me. I'm working on updating my page, and will add some new songs by next week. Credit where credit is due, "Son of a Gun" was produced by Caleb Stull (of the Parlour Steps), who also played those sweet electric guitar parts on the track, and the female voice is Allison Russell of Po' Girl.
"Son of a Gun" will be on my upcoming record, Pleasure Pounds. Still figuring out when the CD will be ready, but it was produced by Caleb, and features guest appearances by friends like Allison, Cam Dilworth of the Neins Circa, Shawn Killaly, Shaun Brodie, Chris Rippen and a whole lot more. Almost everyone who played on my album was compensated in food.
I've got a couple of shows in Vancouver coming up in August:
August 3 at the Radio Station Cafe on E. Hastings
August 22 at the Railway Club with the Neins Circa and Roger Dean Young & the Tin Cup
    thanks again!
