In the R3 office, or land of cubicles, it's exciting when a new face shows up. Lately, I've had Heiko as a cubicle quadrant neighbour, and he's been up to some interesting stuff. Like thinking about the Summer of Love, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Heiko was asking the hosts for predictions about what songs that are popular today will stand the test of time and become classics in the years to come.
I started thinking about singer-songwriters, because a beautifully written song has no expiry date. Joel Plaskett came to mind, Ron Sexsmith, Sarah Harmer ... but if I had to place a bet on this, I think my money is on Buck 65.
The way that Buck 65 has evolved over the years, the way that he experiments with different sounds and styles, and especially how he has built a career at a time when the music business is changing so rapidly, all adds up to an amazing musician. Perhaps a legend ...
So far, I think this is the best song that he's made, but I know that there are more to come.
Here is Buck 65 - Wicked and Weird.
