Ex-Inbreds Mike O'Neill Makes Acting Debut On Trailer Park Boys

Posted by Jennifer Van Evra on May 04, 2007

Mike O'Neill used to be known as one half of The Inbreds. Now he's known as a singer/songwriter. But he might have a new claim to fame.

He already does sound for the Trailer Park Boys - but he's about to make his acting debut on the famed TV show. The episode is called The Mustard Tiger, and it airs May 6th to 10th on Showcase.

So... How did it happen? And how did it go? We head to the trailer park to find out.

That's awesome, I'm excited to watch, I love the show, the only thing missing is indie canadian music on the show, but if there was a annual soundtrack sort of thing with picks by people of TPB, i'm sure people like matt mays would be on it

I love Mike O'Neill. I've been wondering what he's been up to.

Now, can someone dig Jim Guthrie out of the woodworks?

Jim Guthrie is doing great! He plays with Islands and it the writer of that commercial jingle "Hands in my Pocket"!

... can't say I've ever "got" the Trailer Park Boys... I guess I'm more of a west coast Beachcombers type guy

I resisted the show for the first few years, despite prodding from friends. Now I'm hooked. I think it's by far the funniest program every produced in Canada, and stands up to anything from the States or UK.

Ricky's mangling of the language is nothing short of brilliant, and they do an incredible job of nailing this segment of Canadian citizenry. Basically the show reminds me of most of the summer jobs I held in high school... especially working for the city of St. Catharines. Wow.

I like the Trailer Park Boys, too, when it's good. I find the show's a bit inconsistent, though. When it's good, it's awesome, but when it's bad (and it always seems to be bad when you're introducing people to it for the first time) it's pretty bad.

The first season was meh, and last season wasn't good, but a lot of the shows in between have been really good.

    Sandbox

I always found it odd that more Indie-type music didn't find its way into Trailer Park Boys. Especially given that Mike Smith (Bubbles) was in Sandbox.

    Remember them? That song, "Curious"?

As for Trailer Park Boys as a cultural phenomenon...I don't know. It seems that the premise of the whole show is starting to wear a little thin.

Admittedly, I'm far from a faithful viewer, but I do have to send kudos to the three guys for staying in character - perpetually. It's astounding.

I think featuring indie music would spoil the illusion. Let's not kid ourselves... these guys are fans of Rush, BTO, and April Wine.

And I have to say... I thought they were starting to run out of material, but this year is shaping up to be pretty funny. Plus I like the new 16/9 aspect ratio look. More room on the screen for hijinks.

Can you get more of that Sweeten Powered Chicken

Grant tell me you don't want the ole Cooper SK400 unadjustable one-piece that Bubs is donning there. You strap on a sweet cage with an Asia-sized chincup and you're well on your way to looking like a Beer League all star…

As for the TPB's… Like John, I resisted the show. My brother's raved about it, as did friends, but the most I had ever sat down and watched was 5 minute segments here and there. It didn't seem that funny to me. But then I sat down and watched a whole episode when someone lent me season 1 DVD. And then 5 days later over my Christmas vacation, and I had seen all the way through to season 4.

It's definitely an acquired taste, but I can suggest that it's something you need to kinda force yourself into. And most certainly not expect lot from. And you'll get just that.

Good on Mike O'Neill! Like Craig said, I am kinda surprised more indie musicians haven't made it into the cast for here and there parts… I mean don't Sloan look like they'd make great cousins of Cory and Trevor's?

They did do well to have Street Cents turn into a Rapper though!
