The R3-30 Goes Poddy

Posted by Craig Norris on Feb 26, 2007

The R3-30 has been dragged, squinting and wailing, into the present.
Or at least the recent past.
Every week, we'll be laying down a shorter version of the show that you can download and listen to at your leisure.
Over and over and over again.

Who would have thought in 1954, when The R3-30 was created as a make-work project for one of Prime Minister St. Laurent's nephews, that 2007 would witness the dawn of a new, digital era?
Pretty heady stuff for a show that was once referred to as "a poor man's Wayne & Shuster" (Chatelaine Magazine, May 1963).

It's my sincere hope that I can hold a candle not only to Grant's podcast, but to The R3-30 hosts that have gone before me - Lorne Greene, Pamela Wallin, Finnegan, Rich Little, Al Hamel, and Dave Hodge. I humbly remain their living legacy.

Give it a download, won't you?
And I'd love to know what you think!

    Mister Clean Magic Eraser?

WHAT THE CHIT!!!! I chapter surfed, fast forward style past your talking on the podcast Craig, and it erased my iPod, my computer and the gas in my car?

    Double-You-Tee-Eff Craig!

Seriously though, great stuff. I am very happy boy to have this podcast to add to Grant's.

    Gravy

I'm only half way trough it, but already I'm loving it. Although I'm not sure if I like the music or the banter/antics more. There should be two R3-30 podcasts: one one-hour music podcast, and one with the comedy stylings of Craig and Pedro.

Seriously though, why didn't you make Basia Bulat the chart breaker? I want my radio.

    It's like we're synergizing, man!

As well, neuromancer, in the thinking-on-the-same-wavelength category… see the comment I made in the blog story above this (the one posted by John about R3-30 and the NMC going to pod), about a Craigdro or Pedraig hour.

    Veird!

    I'm just a hack

As I was writing it, I thought "wait, didn't I read someone say this already today," but then didn't see the comment in the post already, so thought not. I was still tired. It was early.

So they were kidding when they said they had the warm-up gig for Stroumbo, right? I would buy it.

    then we're a coupla hacks!

I think Strombo would kick them off the tour because they subscribe to "sitcom humour" too much.

    Didn't...

    I'm loving it!

Didn't Casey produce the R3-30 when Finnegan was hosting it? and didn't Red Green run the R3-30 back in the mid 90s as a guest host?

    where is the xml link

    1. where is the xml link so i can actually subscribe to this pod "cast"

    2. arrrg and what is with the godforsaken layout of this site why does cbc radio3 insist on horribly unreadable layout. you've crammed this "blog" into a tiny area of scrolling text surrounded by an undecipherable musicplayer and oceans of black space, while the rest 90% of my screen is going unused. can someone please smack the webdesigner?

    Sorry, Tommy

It was me, it's my fault. I'm the web designer. By the way, you can get to the podcast stuff by clicking on the PODCAST link up near the top of the site. Or, here: http://www.cbcradio3.com/podcast/r330/
