New Music Canada Track of the Day for February 26th, 2007: Bob Kemmis - Late Night Advice

Posted by Tariq Hussain on Feb 26, 2007

Driving home from Whistler on a dark and rainy night a week or so ago, my girlfriend started to play Name That Tune with me. The way it works is that she scrolls through my iPod searching for songs to stump me. Can I guess this song? Can I guess that artist?

Well, on that particular night with over anxious drivers high-beaming me from behind for going too slow (60km through construction zones on the treacherous Sea to Sky highway too SLOW????!!) I think I did pretty well.

At one point in the game, she put on a song by my good friend Bob Kemmis (which I guessed right) and you know, it was the perfect antidote to my boiling rage at the brutal driving habits of some BC drivers. Bob has the perfect blend of humor and poignancy in his lyrics and it soothed my weary-ragged-highway soul.

Luckily Bob gets to fly when he's traveling the world with big stars, tuning their guitars but when he returns home to Vancouver he writes and records his own songs. In fact, he's working on a new record right now. Until it's available, here's a taste of something from his last album Arena Ready.
