NMC Track of the Day for February 6th: Chromeo "Fancy Footwork"

Posted by Lauren Burrows on Feb 06, 2007

Dancing is good for you. A little cardio, lots of ass-shaking, and it makes you more attractive. I think that even if you have no moves at all, just getting out on the dance floor to strut your stuff shows the world that you don't give a hoot, and that is very sexy indeed.

Chromeo is a duo - Pee Thug and Dave 1 - who make "lovers funk" that is oh so good to dance to. They have been best friends since their Montreal teenhood, and also lay claim to "the only successful Arab/Jew partnership since the dawn of human culture."

There is sexxx appeal all over this music. For real. Take a look at the picture, then play the song, and take another look. Now you've got a crush on them, right? It's like magic!

So lock yourself in your room with this song, bust some moves, and work it on out ... "Fancy Footwork" is your NMC Track of The Day!

p.s. Chromeo are in the UK right now, and when they get back to North America, will be heading to SXSW and WMC, so keep an eye out!

    Peace and Coexistence: Music

Since it's an interest of mine, I thought I would share several examples of Jewish/Arab (predominantly Muslim) initiatives. (And I realize LB was quoting, and not herself claiming anything.)

I'm not sure how related these links are to the funky-ass,neon-sunglasses-and-
tearaway-pants-lovin' Track of the Day, but
I hope at least some of you are interested in these hip-hop & other music projects, in any case:

http://www.cornerprophets.com/ -- check out the post about the Israeli-Palestinian Comedy Tour, too (related: http://www.hiphopsulha.com/ )

    Non-music-focused projects:

http://www.encounterpoint.com/index.php -- "A former Israeli settler, a Palestinian ex-prisoner, a bereaved Israeli mother and a wounded Palestinian bereaved brother risk their lives and public standing to promote a nonviolent end to the conflict."

http://www.arava.org/new/ -- "By encouraging environmental cooperation between peoples, the Arava Institute is working towards peace and sustainable development on a regional and global scale."

http://www.3citiesagainstthewall.net/ -- "an exhibition protesting the Separation Wall under construction by Israel in the Occupied Territories of Palestine. This project involves groups of artists in Ramallah, Palestine; Tel Aviv, Israel; and New York City. The show [was] held simultaneously in all three cities in November 2005."

As for success, the hip-hop projects at least have as far as I know at least raised awareness that such projects and attitudes are out there. If inspiring others counts, I'm willing to bet at least some of these people and projects count as successful.

Um ... all that said, what do people think of Chromeo's track?

LB, I think this song is locked firmly in Checkmate with Tiga's "Far From Home" as internationally accepted Zöolander walk-off musical accompaniment.
