The Decemberists were forced to cancel the last two performances on their North American tour this weekend. The Vancouver shows were scheduled for November 18 and 19, and were cancelled during the day on the 18th.
While the Portland band's new album, The Crane Wife, is full of tales of death, greed and murder, singer Colin Meloy was temporarily felled by a much less romantic antagonist: a really nasty virus.
According to the band's label, Meloy had been under the weather for two weeks, and toward the end of the tour the bug was bad enough that doctors were telling him not to sound check or even speak during the day.
The band is heading to Europe, but has already rescheduled its Vancouver dates, and will appear December 13 and 14. On the 13th, tickets from the November 18 show will be honoured; on the 14th, tickets from the 19th will be accepted.
