CBC News has partnered with
The Dominion Institute,
Toronto Star, and
La Presse to get people thinking about
Canada
in 2020. The project has invited some of the nation's leading thinkers (What, no
David Frum?) to write about a single issue, event or trend that they believe
could transform the country by the year 2020.
This debate isn't reserved for the eggheads though. Citizens
are invited to join the dialogue, and submit their own essays. Citizen essays
generating the most comments will win a $2020 cash prize and be published in
the partnering publications.
Speculation on how the future may shape up is dodgy
business. I mean for all we know in the year 2020 a beleaguered Prime Minister
Douglas Coupland could find himself fighting a war against a race of
genetically engineered super-chimps bred for organ replacement that are wreaking
havoc in a post-atomic war Toronto, though probably not.
