Canada In 2020

Posted by John Paolozzi on Jul 05, 2006
CBC News has partnered with The Dominion Institute, Toronto Star, and La Presse to get people thinking about Canada in 2020. The project has invited some of the nation's leading thinkers (What, no David Frum?) to write about a single issue, event or trend that they believe could transform the country by the year 2020.

This debate isn't reserved for the eggheads though. Citizens are invited to join the dialogue, and submit their own essays. Citizen essays generating the most comments will win a $2020 cash prize and be published in the partnering publications.

Speculation on how the future may shape up is dodgy business. I mean for all we know in the year 2020 a beleaguered Prime Minister Douglas Coupland could find himself fighting a war against a race of genetically engineered super-chimps bred for organ replacement that are wreaking havoc in a post-atomic war Toronto, though probably not.

    Ezra Levant

Is Ezra Levant included on the list of eggheads?
I heard a bit of his chat with Jian and it just blew me away. I guess it had the same effect on the might Grant Lawrence. I wish I could have heard what he said. Maybe we can find out more on this weeks podcast?

Ezra doesn't appear to be on the list. I didn't catch the show. What went down with Jian?

Sounds Like A Right Wing Nut

Unfortunately I didn't get to hear the whole thing. Ezra has released a book called The War On Fun. Basically saying that all these people stopping people from driving Hummers, eating fast food, smoking and shopping at Wal Mart are missing the big picture. Unfortunately I didn't get to hear what the big picture was but I really thought it was all just a joke. Jian seemed to be laughing while he was asking Ezra questions. I guess Grant was the next guest and he had a few words for Ezra but sadly I missed them. The one questions I'd like to ask Ezra is if he is so against prohibitionists stopping him from smoking and what not how does he feel about legalizing drugs and gay marriage.
